My Story

Hi. I’m Rachel.

I help put more good in the world through marketing.

Today, I’m the first Head of Marketing at TeachFX. We’re using AI to help teachers do what only teachers can, and even better.

My career has taken me from global human rights to enterprise early childhood education to my own consulting practice to one EdTech startup, and now another.

Not bad for a kid who never imagined doing anything other than music. After I graduated from Berklee College of Music, the plans changed. I realized I’m as much words as I am music. And that I need my work to connect me to the larger world, to make a difference in a different way than the path I was on.

I think the best (maybe the only) way to learn marketing is to do it.
Maybe that’s because I took such a non-traditional path into this. But, I’ve added to my skills with a few decidedly non-traditional education experiences.

The most life-changing of these was the 5th cohort of Seth Godin’s altMBA, where I was honored by my peers with the Wendy Kopp Cohort Award for remarkable generosity and contributions to the program.

I love working with education-focused startups who measure success by impact as well as the bottom line.

Having gone from enterprise B2B to K-12 EdTech, I understand the difference in ways a lot of growth leaders miss. EdTech is not just business-to-business, even if there seem to be similarities. EdTech is largely a mission-to-mission world. Even if you’re a venture-backed startup with an imperative to grow, you have a mission. You are measured as much by your impact as by your profit growth. And you grow when your mission is clearly helping grow your educators’ mission as well.

Connect with me on LinkedIn, read more right here on this site, or just reach out to me.

If you’re looking for marketing mentorship, find me on GrowthMentor. If you’re an EdTech founder, you can also find me in the next StartEd mentor madness days, where I help early-stage EdTech founders get guidance on hard questions.

If you’d like to talk about pulling me in for advising or consulting, let’s talk! Drop me a note or book an introductory call with me. I take on a very limited number of consulting projects. Check out how I work with EdTech startups.

And I can talk about marketing alll day….

I’ll probably somehow weave in the best podcast I listened to yesterday, the five books on my nightstand right now, what’s on heavy rotation on Spotify & Pandora, or some obscure comedy reference.
